Mara Plains Camp

A one-of-a-kind luxury safari camp in Kenya.
Immersed in one of the most iconic wildlife destinations on the planet.

Overview

Mara Plains Camp is a one-of-a-kind luxury safari camp in Kenya. Located in the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy, just on the Maasai Mara National Reserve’s northern boundary, you are immersed in one of the most iconic wildlife destinations on the planet.

Introduction

Mara Plains Camp sits on the edge of the iconic Maasai Mara, nestled in a lush forest on the meandering bends of the Ntiakitiak River. This luxury safari camp in Kenya offers guests rare access to both the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy and the Masai Mara National Reserve. Exquisite design meets unmatched big cat viewing, with just seven canvas suites suspended on wooden decks above the savannah. This camp is a haven for photographers, adventurers, and those seeking the epitome of Kenya luxury safaris.

Mara Plains Camp is not an imposition on the landscape but rather integrated into it as a quiet refuge among the wild. Its presence does not detract from the ecosystem’s visual beauty but incorporates it with sweeping views across the plains and its careful position among the riverine forest.

Accommodation

There are five double suites at Mara Plains Camp, and in addition the two-bedroom Jahazi Suite, a separate build raised on recycled railways sleepers and coming complete with the services of a dedicated game drive vehicle and guide. The look and feel of the main areas continue through all the accommodations, each a canvas and wood structure with removable sides, each separated from its neighbours for privacy at the end of an attractive stone walkway. All tents feature a queen bed, seating area, private veranda and en-suite bathroom with a spacious copper bath, shower, flush toilet, and sink.

Dining Experience

In keeping with its refined yet comfortable aesthetic, Mara Plains Camp fosters a family-like atmosphere. The cuisine is exceptional, combining European, African, and Asian influences, and all diets are catered for. Breakfasts, a mix of cereals, fruit and elements cooked on demand, are taken either in-camp or out on a wildlife drive, while lunches are generally buffet-style, featuring a range of cold meats, vegetables, and sweets. Evening meals are three course affairs.

Activities

The private Olare Motorogi Conservancy, where Mara Plains Camp is located, is known to have the lowest vehicle density in Kenya’s Maasai Mara region while also having the highest concentration of big cats anywhere in Africa. Mara Plains Camp is a sanctuary for resident wildlife species, including many of the Maasai Mara’s 300 bird species.

After dark, larger mammals frequent the camp, and Maasai warriors escort guests to and from their rooms. Hippos snorting and leopards barking often provide the night’s chorus. Mara Plains Camp showcases Africa’s magnificent wildlife. We believe in keeping the safari experience intimate and personal, so there is no set camp schedule or mealtimes.

The guest’s preferences and wildlife opportunities of the moment tailor the day’s activities and dining arrangements. With complimentary professional cameras and lenses and high-quality binoculars, it is impossible not to see and capture the region’s incredible wildlife scenes.
